Fury of Desire Dragonfury Coreene Callahan Books
Fury of Desire turned out to be my favorite of the series so far. The emotionally damaged dragon shifter, Wick, starts out such a mess that he can barely feed - the trauma from a childhood of slavery and torture have left him unable to bear to be touched. All though he is incredibly antisocial, even with his Dragon brethren, he is fiercely loyal. And even though he sees himself as an irredeemable killer, he has hidden depths and an artist's soul. But it is his loyalty and honor, which make him feel that he has a debt to repay and to that end he is determined to rescue JJ, the sister to a mate of one of his comrades. JJ has her own scarred past and little does Wick release that fate has found him a kindred spirit, one he feels unworthy to claim - but one he cannot resist.I always have an bit of an issue with this series due to the BDBspeak (black dagger brotherhood), so it takes me a bit to get past that and get into the story, but the vulnerability of these two damaged souls and JJ's willingness to go after what she wants despite her fears - and to get Wick to accept that even though he feels she deserves more than he can give than he should just try to be what she deserves - really made the story for me.
There are some interesting things going on in the background ARC (and some horrible ones too - the villains are just so black hat evil) and add in some male bonding moments from the rest of Wick's brother dragons to round things out and I am looking forward to the next book.

Fury of Desire Dragonfury Coreene Callahan Books Reviews
Fury of Desire is book four in the Dragonfury series. I have found a new favorite author and series. I love the characters that inhabit this intriguing world. The dragons are all unique in both their personalities and in their dragon abilities. While this was an excellent book, and can stand on it's own, I would recommend reading the first three. You get a more complete story of their world and what's going on in it.
This is Wick's story. He has been in every book so far, but we know nothing about him. He's dangerous looking, vicious in a fight, and loyal to his brothers. But he refuses to open up and reveal anything personal about himself. He sticks close to his best friend Venom. We learn more about him and his tortured and abusive past. He needs to rescue the sister of one of his "brothers" mate, to repay what he feels is a debt.
JJ, Jamison Jordan, is about to come up for parole. She's served four and a half years of a fifteen year sentence for killing her abusive boyfriend. To keep that from happening, one of the guards arranges for JJ to be taken out. But she survives and is transferred to the hospital. Where Wick and his brothers plan her rescue.
Wick and JJ are two abused and tortured individuals. Neither feels like they are deserving of kindness, let alone someone to love them unconditionally. So we find them drawn to each other, but knowing there is no way it can last.
Without knowing it, JJ has been put on an even more dangerous list. Being a high energy female, she is wanted by the Nightfuries enemy, the Razorbacks. Ivar is their leader, he has been looking for high energy females to use in his breeding experiments. Dragonkind, depend on human females for their survival. They feed on their energy and they carry their sons. What Ivar is trying to do is breed the first dragonkind females so that he can do away with the need for humans. And he has lots of help in his corner. The leader of the Archguard council, Rodin.
There were a few very big questions left unanswered. Two of the Nightfury warriors have been dispatched to attend the annual Archguard festival. After learning from a source high up in the Archguard council, Bastian the Nightfury leader, tells his people to get out before they are sacrificed as an example to all dragonkind. Don't go against Rodin. Nian, Bastian's source, is knocked out and we assume kidnapped. So we are left wondering, are the two warriors going to get out of Prague alive, and what has happened to Nian.
This was a great story. It does seem to be leaning a bit more toward urban fantasy than paranormal romance the more we get into the series. But I don't mind that. The romance is still there. We are just getting more involved in the war between the Nightfuries and the Razorbacks. A bit more political maneuvering, trying to be the first to gain the upper hand in their war. And some really great dragon fight scenes.
I read the first 3 books in this series and loved them. Then I got distracted with other authors new to me. Thank heaven I got back on the Coreene Callahan bandwagon because this book was fabulous. Wick is a tortured soul, with feelings buried so deep nobody knows he has any. His worth, he believes, is his focused and vicious fighting abilities. After all, they are at war with an evil rogue dragon shifter clan. But when Wick feels compelled to pay a debt, he goes to rescue a high energy female hurt and in danger. Hooboy, Wick is now on sensory overload. And he will do anything to protect his female. I loved Wick, he had a horrible life and deserves happiness, but he does not believe he is worthy of happiness. My hear bleeds for him. And the awesomeness of this book is not just from the love blossoming for Wick, but the intrigue and machinations of the evil dragon shifters who plot against the human race and their own kind.
