In high school, I was an avid comic book collector. At the time it was mostly Marvel comics that I was interested in. However, one comic caught my eye, and it was Usagi Yojimbo which was then published by Fantographic. I recently saw these show up as a suggested buy by Amazon, and my nostalgia kicked in. Apparently in the 20+ years, Stan has made the switch to Dark Horse comics. These 'Saga' volumes are releases of Stan's Dark Horse output. Still great quality stories over all of these years.

The prices on these from Amazon are great. For ~$25 each, you get 650 pages of comics and toasts from other people in the business giving Stan his well deserved accolades.

If you have made it this far from these new releases, you know what to expect. Just more great Usagi stories.

I'm very excited to have gotten this special book. Usagi Yojimbo is definitely my favorite comic book character of all time, but this book has one of my favorite short stories by Stan Sakai Nukekubi, which I view as a tale about the importance of people being in the right environment and with people who can see their value, therefore allowing the person to succeed. Nukekubi are cursed individuals who must feast upon flesh and evidently are quite hungry; their head also separates from their body at night so they can feed. Usagi encounters an overly talkative lonely old woman who Usagi tries unsuccessfully several times to end their conversations about her lizard infestation and kooky family. He somehow escapes by accepting a birdcage as a present and quickly saying goodbye. He eventually stays with a quiet peasant who offers him shelter and vegetables, but then turns out to be a really hungry Nukekubi who explains that he must eat flesh, buts views it as a curse. In the end Usagi captures him and leaves him with the old woman. The Nukekubi had plenty of lizards to eat and the old woman had a faithful companion to listen to her. Just lovely.

If you are looking at volume 7 you know what you are in for. A fantastic continuation of the series.
I am one of the hugest fans of Stan Sakai's Usagi stories. I have every collection that has been put out and buy the monthly comic, too. The stories and art are top notch and I think just about anyone can find something to like here!
