When I started reading this story, I didn't like Kara nor did I think she should be such a strong, demanding character for the time period. No young woman in the 1890s would be allowed to speak that way to her father. Just coming home from "finishing school", she should have learned her manners and knew her place. But, that is not who she is. As her character developed, she became more interesting. It is a romance and the author has included many steamy scenes. For a virgin, Kara seemed to have more knowledge about sexual matters than most married women of that time period. The story got more interesting as the plot developed. Not a classic by any means but interesting characters and plot.

this is a great book. it takes place on a farm in the old days. the girl wears jeans when it is considered unladylike. the romance is good and HOT. the guys likes her for who she is.
Love to read historical American romances. Besides having the romance one learns about new locations and always have the atlas close by. First time reading anything written by this author and definitely will consider doing so again. Recommend this for adult readers only.
This was a very good book with lots of action and romance. I enjoyed the way the author developed the romance throughout the story and how she tied the secondary characters into the story. I have given this book a five star rating because I enjoyed it so much.
As I have gotten older, I find that the extreme violence and danger in some of the books out there are difficult on the nerves and the sleeping. These books are gentle with a thread of God's Love for us woven through then. You feel great when you reach the end of these books and your own faith is renewed.
At first I didn't know if I would enjoy this book because I do not normally read western themed books but I loved it. There were funny parts and serious parts. Overall the book was just great! I looked online to see if there were any other books by this author and so far I have not been able to locate any but I would definately read more by this authorr. I recommend this to everyone.
As free and independent as the West she loves, Kara Jonston fights her growing feelings for the Scottish lord, Hawke, aka Lord Stoneham. Resentful of him because he is buying half of her father's ranch, Kara is determined to demonize him, but instead is won over by Hawke's kindness, courage and caring. With the untamed Western desert as the backdrop, their passion sizzles like the desert sun. Filled with intrigue, plot twists and vivid description, The Heart You Own is a delightful read.
An engaging western romance! Ms. Jewkes has keen knowledge of ranching, horses, and the environment of the New Mexico Territory, which is deftly woven into the love story of her heroine and hero, Kara and Hawke. I won't reprise the plot and characters here (other reviewers have done that in fine fashion), but I will say the novel is a page turner and well written, with engaging dialogue, evocative narrative, and highly sensual love scenes. I recommend this novel for anyone who loves the Old West, spunky heroines, tall, dark and handsome Scottish lords, compelling danger and conflict, and a heartfelt "happily ever after."
